The U.S. has less than 5 percent of the world’s population, but more than a quarter of the world’s prisoners. Nearly one percent of American adults are incarcerated, the highest rate in the world, but many prisoners have little access to books or educational material. They face substantial barriers and are cut off from family and friends on the outside. While some prisons have libraries, many do not. Of those that do, access and selection can be extremely limited. Usually, prisoners are not allowed to receive books from friends or family. Thus, "book to prisons" programs are one of the few options available to these individuals.

The California Supreme Court took a stance for equality on Thursday.
By overturning the archaic ban on gay marriage, the judges reaffirmed their belief that all residents of this great state should be treated the same under the law.
Now, a few prominent members of the LGBT community are speaking out to The Advocate about this historic day!
Ellen DeGeneres:
"I’m thrilled that the California supreme court overturned the ban on gay marriage. I can’t wait to get married. We all deserve the same rights, and I believe that someday we’ll look back on this and not allowing gays to marry will seem as absurd as not allowing women to vote.
P.S. I’m registered at Crate & Barrel."
T.R. Knight:
Our 'certain inalienable rights' are protected today. It makes me proud to live in a country that works to correct its sins."
Melissa Etheridge:
"I feel they have made an honest woman of me. What a wonderful blessing for us and the gay community. We’re moving forward. It makes me feel happy for the whole human race that we are finally getting out of our differences and coming together and we are putting this all behind us. It really is going to be the thing that we talk to our kids and our grandkids and say, 'That was the olden days — wasn’t that ridiculous?'"
Marc Jacobs:
" Who to love and how to love should be up to the individual or the couple. Enough said!"

On Thursday, a Manhattan federal judge awarded Lil' Kim $500,000 in a lawsuit against Junior M.A.F.I.A. rapper Lil' Cease and his entertainment company.
Apparently, Lil' Cease and company wrongly capitalized on the Queen B's fame to sell an unauthorized DVD.
Lil' Kim was originally seeking $6 million in damages.
At least she walked away with something!
Karma's a bitch for Lil' Cease. The rapper had testified against Lil’ Kim in a perjury trial that landed her in prison for one month and a day back in 2005.
Will she use the money to get her Bentley back?
No really, I had to post this. My daughter is going to be 2 months old soon ( I can't believe it..time does fly), but she is going through her period of having to be held always. I don't mind it..until I have to use the restroom or put some clothes on! It's real bad because her bouncy and boppy are in Florida (We are moving into our new place tomorrow!) and she doesn't like her other bouncer we still have here or anything else. I've discovered that if I put on the "soundscapes" channel on our cables music channels, she passes out! I've usually got her in the sling at all times, but sometimes I just need a break to catch my breath...or use the potty.
So, if you have a son or daughter my age and you have the soundscapes channel on the tube. Get on it, it works wonders.
Also, this may be a weird question..but how did you all meet mommy friends? Im a young mother, I'll be 20 in a month. All my friends are very uninterested in my life now and I am pretty much friendless besides my one good friend who has a 2 year old and she's 40 weeks pregnant. She is my only friend with a kid who doesn't party every night and understands that I want to be there for my daughter...Soooo... Hey, if you're in the central florida area lets be friends :P I am getting kind of lonely over here!
ps: tomorrow is marley's first plane ride..wish us luck!

I was ???? at it for awhile, then I sat back and watched what he was doing (trying to remove a half pot of coffee from the machine and pour it into a water bottle) and realized he what he meant.
A heart attack. He was saying "I'm giving Mama a heart attack."
And it was true! :-)

And if that wasn't enough, it's supossed to be 90 tomorrow. Yeah, you heard that right. Last month it was still snowing, and now we're leap-frogging to 90 degrees!!!!!
I'd better go pick up Ben's swimming shorts from my MIL's house. I have a feeling that tomorrow morning's errands will include the purchase of a cute little splash pool to put back by the cherry tree. And maybe some sunscreen.
Anyone want to come over for a pool party? :-)

So tonight I went to fill my vehicle up with gas at a gas station who's sign read $3.83 per gallon for regular unleaded. As I put the nozzle into my vehicle (after sliding my DEBIT card) it read $3.86. I was a bit confused until I looked closer and realized that the cash price was $3.83, the credit card price was $3.86. I was absolutely disgusted! How dare they charge me more for using a credit card....as if that's not wrong enough, I was using my debit card (you know the one they have advertised over the last God knows how many years as the SAME AS CASH card?!). So I put the nozzle back and went inside. The guy said "A credit card is a credit card, debit is no different". I told him he could stick his gasoline where the sun don't shine and I would take my business down the road.
Is it not absolutely ridiculous that they can charge you more for using a card? I mean come on! By the time I pull away from that pump, they are already drafting that money out of my checking account. Besides the fact that if someone is using a credit card, they ARE paying more already...to the credit card company. What gives you the right to charge more for it? Money is money when it ends up in your pocket! I find it totally insane that our economy is in a place where people are forced to put gasoline on credit because it is so ridiculously expensive and now they are being penalized for it.
So, do you get cash and 1) break the law by leaving your kids in the car to pay or 2) lug them all inside? Or do you pay with your card and take the increased rate for the convenience??
Edited to add: This is something new happening (in my state anyway) and it's apparently all over the news that gas stations are now getting away with this *new* way of making extra money. I understand that using credit costs -- but I find it quite odd that ALL OF A SUDDEN they are doing this and it is ONLY gas stations (so far anyway)...

For the moms who are working or running a business at home, I was just wondering, what sort of work do you do?
I ask because I keep pondering the question of starting a business, or trying to line up a job that allows me to work from home, and the ideas just aren't flowing.
So, tell me, what are some viable WAHM options? And I'm not going to be anybody's business competition because I'm way up in Canada. :-)
Where were you at and how did you respond? I've just been thinking of some clever comeback for if someone ever asks me, because I kind of freeze up sometimes when asked/told to do something in that type of circumstance and I want to avoid that!
Thanks all !
Many thanks!

Somehow we have a feeling that the Lohans will need to change their story pretty soon!
Lil sis Ali Lohan and momager Dina Lohan are promoting their new "reality" show, Living Lohan.
During a recent interview with TV's Extra, the topic turned to thrice-rehabbed sister Lindsay Lohan, because she's obviously more interesting than the show.
When asked what the family thought about the rumors of Lindsay's romantic relationship with Sam 'The Man' Ronson, they each gave their opinion.
Dina stated, "Samantha's an amazing girl."
Ok, so there are two lies there. Keywords: Amazing & Girl
Like a well-trained animal, Ali added, "They're best friends. They're just friends. It's pathetic what people say."
Riiiiiiight.
Is "friends" code word for "lovers"?
And in response to the countless tabloid reports bashing the Lohan family, Dina says, "I've learned to just deal with it. It's so silly. We actually laugh about it now… It really does hurt…. but you develop a thick skin. You have to ignore it."
As for the "reality" show, the two explain their reasons behind filming it. Oh, and of course they don't say it's to gain publicity and/or money.
Dina says, "To set the record straight as to who we are as people."
Ali adds, "My mom is just a regular mom trying to help her kids follow their dreams."
And for saying that line correctly, Ali gets an extra $5 added to her weekly salary.
